Knowledge Sharing and Cooperation Workshop on CKDu Etiology
On the 20th of May 2024, a workshop titled “Knowledge Sharing and Cooperation on CKDu Etiology” was conducted at the auditorium of the China Sri Lanka Joint Research and Demonstration Centre (JRDC) for Water Technology, Peradeniya. The main goal of this workshop was to discuss the functions of the National Renal Disease Prevention and Research Unit and the progress of Chinese-funded related research projects. This workshop is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Ministry of Water Supply and Estate Infrastructure Development, in partnership with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Dr. Lakshmi Somatunga, (Addl. Sec/PHS) and Prof. Quanyi Wang (DDG) from Beijing Center for Diseases Control and Prevention were the Chairpersons of this workshop. Dr. Nishantha Nanayakkara, Consultant Nephrologist, National Hospital, Kandy moderated the panel discussion. There were several presentations from experts at the MoH, Peking University First Hospital, and the JRDC. Topics of discussion included an overview of the functions of the National Renal Disease Prevention & Research Unit, the Chinese projects investigating the causes of CKDu, and updates on related research progress.
