RCEES held Sino-Sri Lanka cooperation working meeting in Beijing

On February 17, 2023, the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences (RCEES, CAS) held Sino-Sri Lanka cooperation working meeting in Beijing. Prof. Wei Yuansong reported the overall progress and the plan for Sino-Sri Lanka cooperation under the umbrella of JRDC, and 10 groups reported their respective research projects on different topics including CKDu cause studies, water purification technology development, and water resource management, etc. The COVID-19 epidemic has created big challenges for the Sino-Sri Lanka cooperation. However, great progresses were achieved particularly on the topics including CKDu causing factor study, groundwater quality survey and water purification technology development. Two large and many small scale EDR units have been shipped to Sri Lanka, and will be used for serving the CKDu affected people.

Prof. S.H.P. Parakrama Karunaratne was invited to join the meeting. He said that he was very glad to see so many projects were diverted to Sino-Sri Lanka cooperation, and was expecting to have more joint research activities between CAS and UOP in the future. In his conclusion remarks, Prof. Yang said that since the restriction on international travel has been removed, all the cooperation activities should be mainly carried out in Sri Lanka using JRDC as the main base. He hopes that the experts should consult with Prof. S.H.P. Parakrama Karunaratne on how to establish joint research teams.
