Focus group meeting on nature-based solutions

The Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN) has implemented a project on Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) for wastewater treatment in Asia with the supervision of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT University), Australia. The scientists from Sri Lanka (JRDC & UoP), the Philippines, Vietnam, Australia, and Spain have engaged in the project activities. Under this project, an integrated assessment of existing practices and the development of pathways for the effective integration of nature-based water treatment at Kandy and Kurunegala Lakes in Sri Lanka have been focused. The focus group meeting on nature-based solutions at the Kurunegala Lake was conducted on the 10th of January 2023 at the Water Reclamation Center, Ayurwedha Junction, Colombo Road, Kurunegala.

The programme consisted of valuable speeches and a panel discussion. Invited guests from the various departments of the Kurunegala including, the Department of Irrigation, Municipal Council, Police, MOH, Wastewater Treatment Plant, Water Board, Urban Development Authority, Road Development Authority, Provincial Environmental Authority, Sir Jhon Kothalawala College, Department of Local Government, University of Peradeniya, and Joint Research and Demonstration Center for Water Technology (JRDC).
