Ground and surface water quality survey in Sri Lanka

Under the supervision of Prof. Yuansong Wei, UCAS Ph.D. student Suresh Indika and UCAS master students Isuru Yapabandara, Samadhi Athauda, and Rajinda Boteju conducted a field investigation to evaluate the water quality of the tank cascade systems around the Mahakanadarawa giant tank in the Anuradhapura and the Kawudulla tank basin in the Polonnaruwa district in August 2022. The groundwater aquifers (Regolith and deep fractured aquifers) in these regions belong to the dry zones recharged by ancient manmade tank cascade systems.

Master student Samadhi Athauda under the supervision of Prof Jingfu Liu conducted a water quality investigation in the Manner district on Sri Lankan Northwestern coast in the May of 2022. The regional issue of the unpalatability of drinking water was the major focus. The objective was thus to evaluate the groundwater chemistry and examine the relationship between water quality and dissolved organic matter (DOM).
